The Benefits of Vitamin C in Skincare Products

Vitamin C has a variety of different benefits for your whole body especially your skin. Nowadays, many cosmetic companies have started to add vitamin C in their products as a chief ingredient in order to increase the quality of their product and make it more beneficial for their customers. Here is how vitamin C helps in skin care:

1. Makes Your Skin Radicals Free

As you know, Vitamin C is a great antioxidant and does wonders for your skin, it also defends your skin against free radicals. Vitamin C provides the electrons to neutralize free radicals that are produced within your skin after sun damage. However, Vitamin C cannot protect your skin like an SPF does, but it does minimize the damage greatly which you are unable to see.

2. Works as an Anti-Aging Product

If you are worried and concerned about wrinkles then there are products such as facial creams that have vitamin C as the main anti-aging ingredient. Vitamin C works as a powerful antioxidant that leaves many positive effects on your skin such as: making your skin smoother and brighter, removing the fine lines and wrinkles from your skin, and protecting your skin from any free radical damage which usually causes breakdown of the collagen and allows wrinkles to appear on your skin.

An experiment was done where two products (one having vitamin C and other lacking the ingredient) were applied on the person’s skin: one product was applied on the left side and other on the right side of the face and after the 12 week study results came out that at the side where product having vitamin C was applied the wrinkles were decreased as compared to the other side.

3. Makes Your Skin Stronger

When vitamin C comes in contact with your skin, it activates some cells known as ‘fibroblasts’ which are responsible for making new collagen. As the new collagen is made, your skin becomes smoother and stronger than before.

4. Protects Your Skin from Sun Damage

As you know, UV light isn’t good for your skin. It can cause inflammation, wrinkles, sun burn, sun spots or even skin cancer in some cases. In this situation, vitamin C is a great choice as it neutralizes the free radicals caused by exposure to the sun and reduces the other effects such as sun burn or inflammation. Researchers have proven that if you take a good amount of vitamin C then you are likely to have less wrinkles.

5. Vitamin C is a Wonderful Skin Healer

Getting your skin burnt, cut or scratched is very common, sometimes causing scarring, which can be treated and healed with the help of vitamin C. Vitamin C is capable of repairing the damaged part of your skin and also produces keratinocytes. Keratinocytes are the cells which are required to close or heal an open wound that is on the surface of the skin.

6. It Promotes the Production of Collagen

As your age increases, the ability for your skin to produce collagen decreases and the connective tissues within your epidermis get weaker. Taking vitamin C can help in producing more collagen which makes your skin smoother, firmer and softer.
