How Often You Should Wash Your Hair – Hair Care Done Right

Hair Care
Just like every illness requires a different medicine, similarly every hair requires different conditions and care necessities. There are three types of hair people possess:

  • Curly
  • Straight
  • Wavy

Before discussing them though, let’s highlight the reason hair requires shampooing in the first place.

Reasons for Using Shampoo

There are not hard and fast rules as to when you should wash your hair. If you feel like your hair needs a wash then go for it. If not, then don’t. For shampoo though, following conditions are the most common ones:

1. Sebum

Your hair produces natural oil called ‘sebum’. This oil accumulates and keeps your hair lustrous. But with every passing day or in some cases hour, sebum increases multiple times. Due to this, your hair looks greasy and dirty. And you require the need to shampoo.

2. Sweat

If you work out a lot or have a hectic routine then sweat generally accumulates on your body. This includes your hair as well. You can sometimes feel it as it dribbles here and there. In some cases, hair starts to itch horrendously. And the irritation level reaches up to the peak. Hence in such circumstances, you ought to shampoo your hair.

3. Chlorine

For swimmers, its important to remember that chlorine sticks to your hair and should be washed out for happy healthy hair.

4. Dirt, Rocks Etc.

If your spending lots of time outdoors, either with hobbies or outdoor work, shampooing more consistently is important!

Wash Required According to Hair Types

As already discussed above, there isn’t a particular day or hour you need to wash your hair. Whenever you feel like you need one then have it. However, the washes can be categorized according to the hair types as follows:

1. Curly

Curly hair consists of thick texture. The hair is thick and coarse. Reason for this coarseness is that sebum takes a lot of time to travel from the scalp. Now since shampooing your hair requires trapping the sebum, then for a curly haired person, the wash should be after every 2 or 3 days. Meaning if you wash today, then schedule your next wash after 2 or 3 days.

2. Straight

Sebum travels much easily and faster in straight hair. As a result, you’ll see that could appear oily after one day. For everyone sporting straight hair, wash daily.

3. Wavy

Wavy hair works differently. It can be go every other day, but some will require a wash every day. See which works for your hair, a daily wash or wash after 2 days? Follow the pattern and observe a significant change.
