How to take care of your skin by Aesthetician Jessica Davoudi
First you should have a skin consultation by a licensed aesthetician. You should have a facial during the consultation so your aesthetician can see how your skin reacts to certain products, enzymes, and masks. The consultation will help determine what your at home skin care routine will be. Your at home skincare routine is so important and should be done twice a day. Even if you believe you have great skin there is always a way to improve to help in the long run. A lot of what you do in your younger years will determine how your skin will look later on in life. If you don’t have a routine at home and you’re looking to start with a skin care line I recommend starting with three products for the first few months and slowly adding more products to your routine. You don’t want to be overwhelmed with too many things in the beginning. It’s important to know what is in your products and the importance of the ingredients. Put it this way if you have a friend or family member ask you what skin care you’re using you should be able to give them a description of what you’re using why it works and what it’s helping to achieve for the future. It’s very important to know what you are applying to your skin on a daily basis. My goal with each and every guest I see is to educate them on the importance of the ingredients, what they do, and why they work. I only recommend using medical grade or pharmaceutical grade skin care products. They have much more strict rules to follow and many skincare lines have to show clinical studies.
Once you’ve had a skin consultation and your aesthetician has determined what products would be best for you It would be good to follow up in a month to talk with your aesthetician about how the products have been working for your skin. Some results are immediate and some results may take a little bit longer. It’s always good to have realistic expectations. After a month of trying your new skin care we can add more products that will help you achieve your long term goals with your skin.
Every morning you should cleanse your skin, use toner, vitamin C, daytime moisturizer, eye cream, and sunscreen. You always want to use products that are the thinnest to the thickest in consistency. Even in the winter you should use sunscreen. That will be one of the greatest anti-aging products you’ll ever use.
Every Night you should do a double cleanse with your skin. That means cleansing once washing it off and doing that same step over again. Makeup stays on our skin nowadays very well so you want to make sure your skin is completely clean and free of any make up and residue before you start your next steps.
If your skin has any make up or residue on it the rest of your products won’t be able to work properly. After you cleanse your skin you want to make sure you tone your skin. Then, you want to use your vitamin C any boosters or anti-aging serum‘s then any retinol glycolic or any type of anti-aging product and of course your eye cream and nighttime cream. if you wish you could also use a neck cream as well.
I know it seems like the daytime routine and the nighttime routine will take forever but just remember in the beginning you’re only going to be doing a few things and once you become a pro with that you will slowly incorporate more products. The total amount of time it should take for you to do your routine in the morning and at night should take no more than 5
minutes.
I also recommend that you exfoliate your skin at least once a week. Not all exfoliants are created equally so depending on which one would be best for you determines how many times a week you will use it. Some exfoliants are every day, some are only once a week, and some are once a month. Always exfoliate at night time because once you remove all of those dead skin cells your skin becomes more susceptible to damage from the sun. I recommend using a hydrating moisturizer after you exfoliate and always use sunscreen the following morning.
I also recommend that you use some type of mask that would benefit your skin once a week. Most facemasks stay on your skin for around 15 minutes and are done once a week. Depending on your skin type depends on what type of mask you will use. Sometimes you’ll even use two different kinds of masks on your face at the same time in the areas of concern. A lot of times if you’re using a more aggressive exfoliant you should do a mask afterwards to help calm and soothing your skin.
So when should professional facials be incorporated? I recommend having a facial done once a month because your skin sheds a full layer about every month. if you’re not able to come every month try to come at least once a quarter. Talk to your aesthetician about what your treatment plan will look like for the year. You may need a different facial every time you come in. Enzyme treatments, chemical peels, oxygen facials, microdermabrasion, Hydra facials and Vivace treatments all do different things but the one thing they have in common is they help to improve your skin in the long run. depending on your skin type and concerns will decide what is the best course of treatment for you. it’s important to express what your goals are and what your budget is when planning your facial treatments. Not only do facials help with the appearance of your skin but during that hour treatment it will be very relaxing and comforting and something you will look forward to coming back to!
